Most existing labels and measuring systems are limited to one or few issues and leave the possibility open that another issue is in bad shape.
Most news about sustainability is about the climate, energy and green house gasses and the other issues remain underexposed. Without a comprehensive standard including all issues, a company can never be sure that tomorrow the next issue will come up and cause negative publicity.
Another problem with most standards is that they require full compliance to a set of criteria. If a company or product does not comply in one aspect, no cerertificate is granted.
The Oiconomy Standard is a comprehensive standard, including all sustainability issues, but strangely enough it requires no level of sustainability.
It is a standard on the measurement of sustainability and only requires the correct use of the method of determination of sustainability and is applicable to any product and any level of sustainability.
