The foundation is directed by a board of the following people:
Pim Croes, president
Pim graduated in Food Sciences in the University of Wageningen in 1976.
He worked as research, development and quality assurance manager in major food industries and was active in development work in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
He finished his active career as lead auditor at the Dutch Accreditation Council.
A severe accident in 2007 stopped his active career, but also gave him time to use his enormous experience with business and standards for the development of the Oiconomy Standard.
Ward de Groote, board member.
Ward de Groote was born September 22, 1964; he is married with three children.
Ward is especially known as founder of Utz certified, a very succesful sustainability mark for coffee, cocoa and tea.
He worked for The Ahold Coffee Company as CEO and as Product group manager Coffee and Tea and Manager buying and sourcing at Marvelo and has very valuable experience with sustainability issues in the complete life cycle of products from the source in development countries to the shelves of the supermarket.
Currently Ward is owner of his own company: “Ward de Groote BV”.
Wards passion is to connect people on the subject of sustainability and acts as advisor and interim manager, with clients like:

Ed Monchen, treasurer.
Ed has a background in developing strategies and raise funding for new innovative business concepts. As an entrepreneurial manager he has worked in the Netherlands and abroad for various start-ups and blue chips (HP, Aon).
Since 2008 he is active in the field of sustainable development and has co-developed People 4 Earth, a new sustainability framework. Ed studied Management Science and Industrial Engineering at the Technical University Eindhoven.
Dr. Walter J.V. Vermeulen (1958) is Associate Professor of “Sustainable production and consumption” at the Department of Innovation and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University. After studying sociology (Leiden, 1984) he worked at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (1985-1986), Utrecht University (1986-1992) and TNO (1992-1996).
His work is focused on making connections between on the one hand prescriptive theories and methodologies for sustainable production and consumption and the other hand (quantitative) scientific analysis of the practices of application of these theories and methods from a broad social science approach. He analyzes, preferably interrdisciplinary, possible explanations from the fields of management, innovation science, public administration, sociology and environmental science. More recently he focusses his research on sustainable innovations and on governance of sustainability in global product chains.
Vermeulen has more than 30 articles published in international journals. He is also a member of the Editorial Boards of four science: the journals Sustainable Development, Business Strategy and the Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management and Progress in Industrial Ecology. He is also Program Leader of the international master Sustainable Development at Utrecht University and active as Vice President of the International Sustainable Development Research Society.
